Who we are

For more than 170 years, we’ve been part of making significant improvements to the lives of working people, including the 8-hour day, paid maternity leave, rights for apprentices, family-friendly conditions and superannuation.

The AMWU campaigns for secure jobs, a better deal at work, and making more things here.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) represents over 60,000 workers across the country. For more than 170 years, we’ve fought alongside our members for fairer pay, safer workplaces, and secure jobs.

Our members keep Australia running, working across manufacturing in engineering, food production, aviation, printing, technical services, and more. Backed by local delegates, organisers, and industrial experts, we’re here for our members on the shop floor and at the bargaining table, supporting them whenever issues arise at work.

We’re here to protect local manufacturing and make sure working people get a fair go for generations to come.

We represent tens of thousands workers in all areas of manufacturing

Decades of union mergers have made the AMWU what it is today: a powerful union built by, and for Australian workers. Since 1852, we’ve brought together skilled hands across engineering, food production, printing, vehicle/transport, and other technical fields in manufacturing to ensure our collective voice can’t be ignored.
