With the backing of over 60,000 workers, be part of the union that gets things done.
What do I get from being a union member?

When you join the AMWU, you gain the strength of tens of thousands of workers in manufacturing standing together. Whether you need representation or support to resolve a workplace issue, you’ll have the full backing of your union behind you every step of the way.

Our experienced organisers, industrial officers and specialists work alongside members to campaign for the best outcomes. Backed by a national network across Australia, we have the expertise and collective strength to help workers achieve lasting change.

Union membership delivers real results. According to Australian Bureau of Statistics data, trade union members, on average, earn $251 per week more than non-union workers. By standing together, AMWU members negotiate better wages, stronger workplace rights and conditions through collective bargaining. That’s why union members are more likely to have better pay, job security and stronger workplace entitlements than workers without union representation.

You’re less likely to suffer injury or illness in a unionised workplace. The AMWU works with members to identify workplace hazards and improve safety standards. Most importantly, we help hold employers accountable for providing safe working conditions.

If you have a health and safety concern, you’re not on your own. Our dedicated Health & Safety team can investigate issues and inspect worksites to help ensure safety risks are addressed. If you’re injured at work, we can also help you access the support and representation you need.

Union membership gives you more than workplace support. Eligible AMWU members and their immediate family also have access to insurance benefits, providing added protection and peace of mind when you need it most.

We have established a Member Insurance Benefits Program, managed through Coverforce Insurance Broking. Under this program, members* have the following insurance cover in place:

  • Journey Accident Insurance
  • Emergency Transport
  • Funeral Benefit

Whatever stage of your career or life you’re in, the AMWU is here to provide expert advice and practical support.

From bullying and harassment to apprenticeships, parental leave and workplace entitlements, we’ll help you understand your rights and work towards the best possible outcome according to your situation.

Workplace laws can be complex, but the AMWU makes it easier for you to understand. As an AMWU member, you’ll have access to experienced industrial and legal professionals who can provide free confidential advice and representation when workplace issues arise.

Whether you’re dealing with unfair dismissal, underpayment, disciplinary action, workplace disputes or other employment issues, we’re here to help you understand your rights and stand up for them.

As an AMWU member, you’ll have access to free training and professional development opportunities designed to help you grow. Our delegate education courses and workplace leadership programs equip members with the skills and confidence to represent others and resolve workplace issues.

Eligible members can attend these courses during paid work time, with travel and accommodation covered by the AMWU, making it easier to build new skills while continuing to work.

Union support goes beyond the workplace
